in Glasgow

It must be around 11pm, and Charlie is sleeping. Today was first day back to work, and she was upbeat like a child going on his first day back to school. It was actually quite funny to look at. And as she didn't work this afternoon, she had the time to do what I'm now doing: sending off invitations for the wedding. She did all those for her family and friends, and I now have to do mine. I am so not looking forward to do that. I'm rubbish when it comes to paperwork... But she insisted, saying that it would mean a lot for all these people to see my boyish handwriting on the enveloppes. Of course, she didn't say boyish, but I know what my handwritting looks like... Ok, this isn't going anywhere. I need to get started. I get myself a beer and open the folder. The front paper is the list of people we're inviting with some names crossed out: Charlie's homework. The next dozen pages are the adresses. And in the box in front of me: invitations and blank enveloppes. God, it's going to take some time. I get up and put a CD on. Counting Crows. Yeah, that's good.
Mr and Mrs Joseph Brymer. Mum and Dad. Well they already know, but I know Mum wants the invitation anyway.
Mr and Mrs Joe Brymer. I didn't really want Joe at my wedding, but Charlie and Mum insisted that I would regret it later if I didn't invite him. I don't really see how, but hey, women know things that men don't.
Ms Louise Sutherland. Auntie Louise. Mum's sister, who was our favourite baby-sitter...
Mr and Mrs Marcus Brymer. Dad's brother. He taught me how to fish.
...
Vincent Bloon. My best mate, my wing man. He has to be there...
...
What is it? Almost thirty done already. Seeing the end, man, come on. Keep up.
Sean Kross. Oh. Sean... God, I almost forgot him. The handwriting is Mum's. Of course the Krosses are still their neighbours... But I haven't talked to Sean in ages... Would he come? We used to be so close when we were teenagers. God, yeah, I remember that time... we must have been something like 16 or 18. I took him in town, for his first drink out. I had it all set up, a ID card for him in case and all. And that little... oh, it was so funny. I can still see his face when he started talking to that girl. Was she beautiful? Can't remember. I do remember her boyfriend's face though, when he tapped on Sean's shoulder to ask him to leave her alone. And Sean, with his big mouth, made a big deal out of it, saying things like "not allowing competition because scared of losing" and such. And how we laughed and just jumped into the fight when the guys' teammates, who were rugbymen, joined in. The evening ended at hospital, where we had our teeth looked after: I had one broken, and Sean two missing. But it was a great laugh, we were young, and drunk. And his massive big smile, when he took a paper out of his pocket with two names and two numbers on it. That little man managed, somehow, during the buzz, to talk to the girl and get her number and the one of her friend. Yeah, that was the first of many more adventures...
I need him to be there. He's one of the people who matter.
I take my pen, one of the invitation, and write inside.
Hey Sean, long time no see. Listen, dude, I'm getting married, and I need you to be here with me. I want you to share with me and Charlie this moment. And I want to get absolutely pissed with you for the stag night, like in the good old days. Bring your lady friend (or lord friend, for that matter) and come. Talk soon. Steve.
I read it over and take an enveloppe and write on it:
