In Glasgow
Bip. Bip. Bip. Tududududuuuuuuu. Bip. Bip. Bip.
Oh, shut up, you, stupid alarm. My head hurts. No, that’s not true. It just feels like a great effort just to open one eye…
Bip. Bip. Bip. Tududududuuuuuuu. Bip. Bip. Bip.
Ok, ok. I get up. Just sitting down on the mattress and I’m almost back to sleep, running out of energy. Come on, it’s just a matter of will power! Yeah, one foot on the floor! Hurray, the other one as well! Alleluia, you’re standing up! Hold on. That’s not my alarm clock. Phone! I walk a bit unbalanced, get across the room, reach the table on which is my bag. I at last manage to extract my phone which is ringing madly. I press the green button.
“What?”
“Morning, sunshine!”
“Cameron, if it’s a joke, it’s not funny.”
“You tell me.”
“What time is it?”
“A quarter past eleven.”
Silence. I need time for the information to get to my brains.
“What? Oh, shit! Has Bob arrived yet? F…”
“Er, yeah, he’s there, and he wants to speak to you, hold on.”
“What, no, Camie!...”
“Hello?”
“Hi, Bob…”
“You ok, Charlie?”
I sit down on the chair. On the sofa, Paul turns on the other side, and keeps on dreaming. I don’t feel sleepy at all now. What time did we come back last night?
“Fine, I’m fine. I’m so sorry, Bob, I didn’t hear my alarm clock. I’ll arrive as soon as…”
“No, Charlie. Stay home. You have the day off. Cameron showed me what you’ve done so far. You worked quite well over the last couple of days.”
Silence.
“Take care of yourself, ok, Charlie.”
“Sure, Bob, will do. Er, thank you.”
“No bother. I give the phone to Cameron now. See you on Monday.”
“Bye.”
“Hey Princess.”
“Hey.”
“So, day off, hey?”
“I guess so, yeah. You’d be ok, by yourself?”
“You’re sweet, Charlie. Of course, I’ll be fine. I’ll just go on, with what we have so far. Ok? “
“That’ll be cool, yeah. Er, Camie?”
“Yeah?”
“Thanks. A lot.”
“No problem, hun. Hey, don’t forget tomorrow night. 8 at mine, ok? Bring your little bro’.”
“Sure, see you there. Bye.”
“Bye. Oh, and what’s the music of the day?”
“Hum…
Grace Kelly.
Mika.”
“You’re a star. See ya.”
“Bye.”
I drop the phone in my bag, a kiss on Paul’s cheek, and my body back under the duvet.
Geez, what a start for the day!
